APRL is an award-winning emerging paper engineer, illustrator, and designer. 🌞
April Capalungan, also known as APRL (without an “i”) reflects how her work goes beyond herself, embracing the collaborative nature of creativity–an open invitation to reshape and reimagine how stories unfold.

She is indefinitely inspired by two distinct fields — science and arts.
Her journey has been a transformation from aspiring to become a doctor to pursuing a creative life. It was a life-changing eureka moment of self-discovery that uncovered her love for storytelling through making.
APRL holds a double degree in Medical Technology and Visual Communication, which has shaped her innate curiosity, keen eye for detail, and passion for experimentation in bringing ideas to life.

April Capalungan, APRL, is internationally recognized by the Movable Book Society as the winner of the Emerging Paper Engineer Prize 2023

A Tail's Tale, her undergraduate thesis, is internationally recognized by the Movable Book Society as the winner of the Emerging Paper Engineer Prize 2023.

APRL’s first wordless picture book, The Final Invention, is one of the recognized long listed projects of dPICTUS: The Unpublished Picture Book Showcase 4.

APRL always creates with intention. She either reconstructs or deconstructs a subject by observing formations and finding its core in recreating what she calls “silent pop geometric style” inspired by Pictorial Modernism, Japanese Graphic Design and almost anything in between. As an eclectic creative, she also explores paper engineering and woodblock printmaking.

Selected notable collaborations and clients of APRL include Chibitronics8VC, Alliance Francaise de Manille, and Ayala Malls UPTC.
What can I help you with?
I'm happy to work with you in bringing ideas to life through Paper Engineering, Pop Up, Illustration, Graphic Design or anything in the creative spectrum, whichever fits into the concept we'll experiment with.
Of course, to always curiously create with intention.
Let's work together! Make it a eureka moment.
Meet my studio buddies!

April hopes fully bloom in her own way and experience the fullness of life as it is. Starting from short afternoon walks as she basks herself in the warmth of the sun (of course, always wearing sunscreen!).

She shares a workspace with her pet, Antoinette
, whose main role in the studio is freelance napping. Along with interns Eggy and Julio.

A fluffy reminder to always dream :)
