About the Workshop
An artist-led workshop series introducing crafting techniques in making playful sculptural creatures made out of cardboard and paper inspired by Baste’s imaginative cardboard creatures and APRL’s Paper Playground philosophy.

About the Curator and Artist Duo | Workshop Facilitators
Dayang Magdalena Nirvana Tamanio Yraola, PhD
Professor and Chair of the Department of Theory, College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines.

As curator, in the past 15 years, Yraola founded project series for flash residency, archiving, and collaborative/ experimental art production, primarily in and for artists in Asia. The latest of which is Tambayan Archiving Community Sound Memories (TACMOS) (2025-2026) in partnership with CRiSAP-UAL (London). She served/s as advisory board/ jury member for CRiSAP-University Arts London (UK), Bemis Art Center Residency for Sound and Music (USA), DAAD Artist-in-Berlin Programme (Germany), EMKP -British Museum (UK), and Prix Ars Electronica (Austria).

APRL (April Capalungan) is an artist, designer, and award-winning paper engineer innovating with paper’s interactive materiality in reimagining how stories unfold.
APRL’s emerging practice is deeply rooted in the importance of making space for fostering intuitive creative expression. A gentle reminder to truly express oneself – and just simply play. She has collaborated with the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and facilitated workshops in both public, private, and non-profit institutions. 
Sebastian "Baste" Cacho is a Filipino cardboard artist and digital creator known for crafting intricate sculptures and art toys from recycled materials, often inspired by science fiction, monsters, and pop culture. 
His work transforms everyday cardboard into detailed, imaginative forms while promoting sustainability, and he has led hands-on workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila and other cultural and educational institutions.
