Dedicated to my nephew, Alon.
I designed Alon’s mobile toy sculpture over the holidays. Initially, it was intended to be red which is the first primary color babies can see. However, the family noticed that he became fond of a particular blue penguin stuffed toy. Alon would try to interact with it (a.k.a drooly baby linguistics with barely coordinated hand-and-feet choreography).
Beyond that, he truly appeared to be completely mesmerized by objects with the shades of blue. Based on observations, I decided to make the mobile blue and white, while still balancing contrast to support the development of an infant’s perceptual abilities :)
As I played with hanging compositions of the four shapes, I realized they could spell out “love”. This felt true to how everything I try to create is made with grit…but mostly that ✨word ✨.
