Kinetic Origami Book and Experimental Film
Origami Notes (2024 - indefinitely) is a kinetic origami book and experimental film by APRL.
“Every fold holds a memory of its becoming – make a new one”
This book is a preservation of a core idea: realizing the role of folds in designing mechanisms for interactive books. Hence, it inspired the pursuit of understanding the interaction of folds and exploring form making of pop-ups through intuitive paper folding.
Made from a single sticky note, functioning as a daily reminder (literally). The boundaries from a square may seem limiting, yet for me, its “blankness” dares to be intervened. Through the daily intuitive interaction with paper – improvised gestural folding and unfolding – emphasizes the materiality of paper to reconstruct and/or deconstruct itself with a sense of play.
Lines are drawn from the gestures of folding – imprints a memory of trying again. Origami Notes is intended as a 1 of 1 (unique artist book) because of its indefinite nature and a memo of its realization (in analog and re-experienced as an experimental film format).
APRL reshapes and reimagines how stories unfold.
Bridging analog and tactile experience ⇔ transmedia reimagines how an ever-changing nature coming from a core idea – folds and memories – and the sensory interactions of the artist, medium, and audience transcends the limitations of a square.
